Brett started Ecruising in January 2000 and has built the company from the ground up. Originally formed with a staff of just two, the ecruising group of companies now consists of vertically integrated wholesale, tour and retail divisions employing over 20 people (will be in 10 days currently 18, starting 2 new sales people). Ecruising pioneered the way Australian consumers purchase a cruise holiday by opening up the distribution channels and allowing both agents and consumers alike to book a cruise holiday at their convenience, 24 hours a day, and for the first time, giving them access to competitive packages that included flights, transfers, hotels, tours and cruise. Ecruising has been able to do this through its agreements with over 33 cruise lines, 21 airlines, ground operators and over 224 hotels around the world leveraging these relationships to create unique cruise packages that deliver seamless travel.
In 2002, Brett decided to build his own systems so he wasn’t reliant on 3 party programs and companies. This turned out to be a master stroke because when the cruise lines offered API connections, ecruising was at the forefront with a system that was compatible and in fact, was the 1st company in Asia Pacific region to develop the Costa API and the 1st Australian travel company to offer a cruise holiday online 24hrs a day 7 days a week. From there, Brett developed the API directly with RCCL group and all the Carnival brands, this itself is a huge asset to the company. The online API now represents 35% of the local bookings ie, South Pacific etc. We have the ability to have all these brands book online however, we choose to focus on international packages with increased margins.
Ecruising continues to lead the way in technology development. Consumers now have the ability to book all the major cruise lines online themselves in less than 2 minutes 24 hours a day at very competitive pricing. Try it and you'll never book a cruise holiday any other way!
Over the past 9 years, Ecruising has developed unique high end tours combining the highest level of experiences for the discerning traveller. Past tours include chartering the Orion Expedition ship in May 2009 from Broome to Darwin for 100 people; this included helicopter experiences to remote areas, visiting ports that are not normally accessible, chartering planes to the Bungle Bungles (view some of the videos at our ECTV station). In 2011, Ecruising chartered a luxury ship for 48 passengers to cruise the Galapagos Islands, this was combined with a land program to Peru and Easter Island (view Galapagos video's here).
For the past 8 years, Ecruising has taken groups to Africa combined with Queen Mary 2, which also included chartering a 737-800 from Kenya Airways and taking out game lodges exclusively for Ecruising guests (view Africa and others here).
These exclusive itineraries outgrew the ecruising.travel brand so we decided to create a separate company that is dedicated to providing immersive experiences, luxury and effortless travel called Latitude 33.
The name Latitude 33 is inspired by Brett’s favourite cities, Sydney, Cape Town and Santiago, all of which share the latitude 33 degrees South. The latitude 33 stretches across many diverse cultures in many different time zones. Latitude 33 was launched in February 16 and has resonated with the discerning traveller. In November 2008, Ecruising opened a regional office in Hong Kong, the first cruise only travel agency in Hong Kong proving Brett’s business model and systems were not just confined to Australia and proved it could work in other countries. After 7 successful years, the remaining 51% was sold to our HK partners. In 2010, Brett was recognised by Hong Kong's Chief Executive, the Honourable Donald Tsang, at the reception for Top Executives for New Companies Expanding into Hong Kong.
In 2009, Brett was honoured winning the Tourism sector at the City of Sydney business awards, the first travel agency ever to win this award.
In 2011, Ecruising was recognised by Hong Kong Economic Trade for contribution to industry between NSW and Hong Kong, the first travel company to ever receive the award. Over the last 17 years, ecruising group has been awarded over 84 accolades including The City of Sydney Business Awards, twice in three years. Ecruising continues to lead the way in cruise travel technology (click here to view our awards).
