Seabourn - Travelling And Staying Healthy

6 July, 2020

Seabourn's highest responsibility and top priorities are compliance, protecting the environment and the safety, health and well-being of guests, crew members and the people in the communities they visit. In support of the global effort to stop this unprecedented global pandemic, in mid-March they paused cruise operations around the world.

During this time, they are working in close coordination with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and other global health experts, to develop enhanced procedures and protocols for health and safety on board their ships. When the time is right to resume cruise operations, they continue to be committed to providing guests with a safe and healthy environment based on the latest advancements in health protocols. A comprehensive restart protocol may include areas such as medical care, screening, testing, mitigation and sanitization addressing arrival and departure at cruise terminals, the boarding and disembarkation process, onboard experience and shore excursions.

At this time, it is simply too early in the process to provide exact details and specifics on plans to enhance their procedures and protocols. That is especially true as the medical and scientific communities are constantly learning more every day, and working to align on best practices for mitigation protocols.

As they continue their ongoing work with health officials, the latest key learnings and best practices recommended by experts will be utilized to help inform the details for future enhanced procedures and protocols. Additionally, their holistic restart plans will be reviewed for approval by government agencies, such as the CDC in the U.S., prior to the cruise industry’s resumption of operations.

Seabourn remain deeply committed to the goal of protecting the health and safety of everyone involved with their cruise operations, and when the time is right, they look forward to doing what they do best – exceeding expectations and helping guests make lifelong memories as they enjoy the world’s most extraordinary vacation experience.

The Seabourn Team recommends the following routine best practices for travel:

  • Practice healthy travel habits always — According to the World Health Organization and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, the simplest and most effective way to prevent illness, is to take extra care to practice basic health habits, including:
    • Washing your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
    • Taking advantage of hand sanitizer wherever it’s available
    • Covering your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing using a tissue or your bent elbow. And always dispose of the used tissue and wash your hands afterwards
    • Avoiding touching your eyes, nose and mouth with your hands
    • Avoiding close contact with sick people
  • Pack extra medication — Guests are always encouraged to travel with at least two weeks of extra medication beyond the length of the cruise, when possible, in the event of unexpected travel delays and emergencies. Also bring a list of the names, strengths and dosages of all medications in case refills are required.
  • Mobile phone instructions — Remember to enable an international travel plan inclusive of voice and data. Cell phone networks vary by country and Wi-Fi is not as available in some destinations. An international plan will enable you to stay connected at a reasonable rate and ensure you can be contacted.
  • Provide Emergency Contacts — In rare circumstances, it may be necessary to reach an emergency contact on your behalf. Provide a validated emergency contact & phone number within your booking. The emergency contact should not be traveling with you, but another personal connection.
  • Purchase travel insurance — It’s always a good idea to purchase SeabournShield, or some other form of travel protection, not only to protect you from any losses stemming from unforeseeable circumstances during your vacation, but to give you confidence to make new plans. This should extend to airfare bookings, as well.  Make sure you fully understand any policy you purchase to understand what is and isn’t covered.
  • Be aware of latest health advisories — New travel restrictions may change with short notice.
