Life’s a beach in San Diego, but we’ve places to go. So we’ll quit this laid-back city and head over the border to Mexico and our first port of call, Ensenada, a culinary hub with a hinterland of wineries. Next, we’ll spend a day sailing to the popular vacation resorts of Cabo San Lucas and LBGQT+ friendly Puerto Vallarta, before watching the world go by en route to Acajutla, in El Salvador, where a coffee from one of the country’s famous plantations is a must. We tick off another Central American country, Nicaragua, at our next port, San Juan del Sur, gateway to some serious surfing. Now Costa Rica comes into view at Puntarenas, where there is seafood to dine on and nature to admire further inland. South America is our quest on a day at sea, which we reach at Manta in Ecuador, renowned for its wickerwork, an obvious souvenir. Our final port is Guayaquil, gateway to the Galapagos Islands.
